What kind of foreigner are we when we return home?
If identities are material conditions, then they can be read on the topography of the place where they are constructed.
Aimé·es Rossi (BE/FR)
After five years away from their homeland, five years of moving around on different spectrums, Aimé⸱es decide to return to Martinique for Karnaval. They question the transformation of their relationship to the island from this new body and what remains feminine in this link.
In the intimacy of the domestic and repetitive gesture, they invite you to unravel, to reassemble collectively the thread of reflections that are entangled in the stories. Once the material has been charged by all the hands that have handled it, it can transform into a new costume: a Makoumè, a repulsive figure, a symbol of deviant masculinity, will be carried through the streets until its release in the fire.
Originally from the West Indies, Aimé⸱es Rossi (they, them) are a young artist based in Brussels. During their studies in scenography at La Cambre, the need to activate space through bodies—biological, social, energetic—pushed them towards practices of performance art. Between 2022 and 2024, they took part in the Performing Identity touring programme. By working with materials, they aim to make their experiences of identity sensitive, in a relationship of intimacy with the public.
