For Better of for Worse is a cathartic effort, a performance that exposes pain to sublimate it. It is a discipline of distance, a struggle against addiction, a test of emotional and physical endurance, a confrontation with absence that shapes the body. A threshold to cross, a barrier to inhabit, a limit to defy. What happens if something you rely on disappears? How to face the longing for who’s no longer there? How to fill that sudden void?
Ana Malnar (SI) & Luca Valentino (BE)
Seven days of deprivation, followed by a meeting in the dark. The body measures itself against the limit, lingers within it, challenges it. Waiting becomes substance, desire turns into tension, emptiness is filled with gestures. Through the body, longing and absence transform into presence. Fear is invoked to be dissolved, the cage to be broken, the void to transfigure.
Ana Malnar (2001, SI) (she, her) is a painter whose practice combines painting, photography, video, and performance to visualize sensory and bodily experiences. Referencing video and performance, her work examines the connections between the body, memory, and emotion.
Luca Valentino’s work (1998, IT) (he, him) is situated at the intersection between visual arts and performative practices. Informed by a deep interest in anthropological and pedagogical studies, his research investigate the human soul and perception through various mediums, such as performance, sculpture, sound, video and photography.
