It provides an opportunity to explore the connection between freedom of expression and journalists’ struggle to uncover the truth, while exposing the obstacles and violence they endure. By placing the audience in an active and emotional position, the performance encourages reflection on the importance of press freedom and their role in defending it through words such as “censorship,” “truth,” and “justice.”
Through a series of living tableaux, symbolic interactions, and visual expressions, the performance underscores that press freedom is a fundamental right that requires constant vigilance and collective commitment to be preserved.
Raising awareness and shedding light on the dangers faced by the press worldwide. Mobilizing and encouraging the public to support press freedom and journalists’ rights. Celebrating and paying tribute to those who risk their lives in pursuit of truth.
Ras Sankara Agboka (he, him) is a self-taught Togolese artist born in 1989. He began engaging in performance art in 2015, which has since become central to his practice, using his own body as his primary medium. For the artist, who dedicates himself unreservedly to the causes he defends, it is essential to “kill fear, resurrect courage with optimism, through photography, installation, and performance.”
Through committed artistic interventions, he denounces current socio-political issues and sparks debates to provoke reactions and reflections among the public, using an open and widely accessible space: the street. He is also the founder of Cascad-Togo, an association that brings together artists dedicated to social action. Each year, this association hosts the Emome’Art International Performance Festival.
