Choreographer Annabel Guérédrat envisions her new duet performance as a procession, a prolonged healing ritual inspired by Caribbean traditions.
Annabel Guéredrat (FR)
Continuing her exploration of the political body and the place of Black and mixed-race women in the region, she opens a new chapter with Let’s Go Back to the River. This dance piece is both a vision quest and a tribute to Oxun, the deity of freshwater, a symbol of spiritual and material prosperity, as well as female emancipation.
Blending Caribbean shamanic knowledge with Afro-descendant rituals, the two performers embody the collective heritage of Caribbean women and mothers.
Annabel Guérédrat’s performance is an immersive and inclusive experience where you will become both witness and participant.
Chloé Timon and Annabel Guérédrat, the first two performers on stage, will guide you through a sensory journey that includes purification rituals such as ben démaré. Once on stage, you will take part in a ritual circle that interweaves observation, sharing, and transformation. The performers gradually transform into cyborg women-mothers, embodying a dialogue between Caribbean traditions and futurism. The experience culminates in a collective celebration, where energy is released on stage to the rhythm of the third performer, DJ SÔNGE, inviting everyone to dance life and surrender to this artistic and spiritual communion.
Annabel Guérédrat (she, her) is an artistic director, choreographer, dancer, and performer. Founder of Artincidence, she explores the political body of Black and mixed-race women in the Caribbean through engaged performances. Influenced by Meredith Monk and Anna Halprin, she draws inspiration from radical ecofeminism and dark ecology. In 2017, she co-founded the International Performance Art Festival in Martinique.
