The performative concert MamiSargassa 5.0, a duo between Annabel Guérédrat and Raphaël Gautier, is part of “Ensargasse-moi”, a series exploring burial rituals of sargassum, a toxic algae. Annabel delivers a powerful work, infused with reflections on ecology and the female condition.
Annabel Guérédrat (FR)
It is the year 2083, on a deserted island once called Martinique. After centuries of colonization and contamination, all life has vanished… except for the sargassum. Mami Sargassa, a genetically modified entity, emerges. To survive, she buries herself in fresh sargassum. This witchcraft ritual allows her to be reborn, to rehumanize herself, and to give birth to new hybrid beings.
Annabel Guérédrat (she, her), a choreographer, performer, and researcher, founded Cie Artincidence in Martinique in 2003. She explores the political bodies of Black and mixed-race women through works such as A Woman (2014), Hystéria (2017-2022), and I’m a Bruja Bruja (2018). In 2017, she co-directed FIAP Martinique, whose 5th edition is planned for 2026. She continues her research on toxicity and healing with Ensargasse-moi and, in 2025, creates Let’s Ggo back Back to the riverRiver, a participatory tribute to Oshun.
Raphaël Gautier (he, him) started playing guitar at age 9, initially passionate about rock before delving into improvised music. A graduate of Jazz à Tours with a DEM Jazz (jury honors, 2019), his project Rotor won a SACEM composition award. Since 2020, he has continued his studies at Pôle Sup’93. An eclectic guitarist, he moves between Paris and Orléans, performing in Rotor, Les Vendeurs d’Enclumes, Louise et Michel (Jazz Migration 2022 finalist), Diane Cluster Diane, Upseen, Oriélo, and Cabot Cabot.
