Through fragile, invisible, transparent elements, an exploration of writing as movement.
Gesture, voice and poetry are unstable materials, caught between appearance and disappearance, presence and erasure.
Garance Buxtorf
In this piece, Garance Buxtorf writes their poems with condensation on an old window hanging from the ceiling. A kettle on the floor produces steam: the writing appears, then fades away. Next to it, headphones play a sound piece. We hear her reading and singing her texts, mixed with other sounds. The words settle, overlap, and sometimes become illegible.
The audience guesses, recomposes, and invents another text through their eyes. The headphones create a special closeness: they isolate, draw you into the intimacy of the voice, into a more internal state of listening; it is speech that is not addressed directly.
Garance Buxtorf (they/them) is a 26-year-old poet, performer and sculptor whose work revolves around the practice of poetic writing in the form of performances and sound installations. Their work explores sexuality, nightlife, the party scene, non-binary identity, friendship and urban landscapes. After a master’s degree at the École de Recherche Graphique (ERG) in Brussels, Garance Buxtorf is currently working on a poetry collection and performances, and makes radio with the experimental collective P-Node.
