“It’s the story of a madman who wore a wheel on his head. He believed that the world turned in the same way as his crown. But most people followed straight, rigid, and angular lines.
Thinking that the world needed to regain its ‘roundness’ and that straight lines would benefit from softening, he set out to release free wheels, spreading this message to the world.”
Mejdi Dridi (BE)
Roue Libre is a travelling event that creates performative moments in the city where the artist, and sometimes the audience, have fun releasing a wheel and letting it roll, wobble, spiral, fall… freely. Like a “Rota Fortunae”, this wheel radiates a stumbling and tinkling energy of letting go.
Somewhere between a child’s game and a cathartic ritual, Roue Libre seeks to confront the rigidity and control of contemporary public spaces with humor and lightness.
Mejdi Dridi (he, him) explores themes of magic, care, and ritual in his artistic work. Through interactive objects, sensory installations, and symbolic actions, he provides tools to craft meaningful stories and reconnect with both the living and the invisible.
