To look at each other, to be connected, to concentrate on gazes and acts, small daily acts, micro-tasks, subtle gestures, collective or individual, to pay attention to everything.
Kubra Khademi
Bodies come together for a purpose, but each of these bodies brings with it thousands of different details, personal narratives, skills, abilities…
The idea of the workshop (and the performance) is to focus on the individual as a performer of multiple acts at the same time. The challenge lies in the common presence of all these bodies gathered in a shared action, performed together. To allow as many actions as possible to emerge by individuals connected by a common act that guides them. To discover that a common action runs through everyone, while a maximum of other actions exist individually.
Participants in the workshop and performance are invited to bring things that will help them to do as many actions as possible at the same time. If we can think about many things at the same time, why shouldn’t we be able to do multiple actions.
Kubra Khademi is an Afghan artist born in 1989. She is a performer and feminist. Through her practice, Kubra Khademi explores her life as a refugee and a woman. She studied fine arts at Kabul University, before joining Beaconhouse University in Lahore, Pakistan. In Lahore she began creating public performances, a practice she continued on her return to Kabul, where her work was a response to a male-dominated society with extreme patriarchal politics. After the execution of her performance known as The Armour in 2015, she was forced to flee her home country and is now a refugee in France. Paris is where she lives and works. In 2016, she received an MFA scholarship to the Pantheon and Audray Azoulay, Minister of Culture, elevated her to the rank of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She is a member of the Atelier des Artistes en Exil and resident at the Cité internationale des arts.
