Lazara Rosell Albear & Sofia Kakouri (CU/GR/BE)
Lázara Rosell Albear is a Cuban-Belgian artist with a cross-media practice, ranging from the research of sound and performance to the production of events and films. Recognized artist in the fields of visual arts and dance, she graduated in the year 2000 from the Royal Academy of Arts – School of Arts KASK – Gent, Belgium, medium Film. Exchanges and sharing constitute the essence of her practice. Always aiming to explore and enhance our/your experimental awareness beyond the usual stereotypes, expansion at different levels, at different layers. She explores movement, migration, transformation, interactivity and its effects on the human condition. What is our place in a world we have come to take part of? The advance in technologies has brought us “new” means to work with, broadening also the traditional means of dance, music, and theatre. Rather than choosing between these different media, she strives for a contrapuntal togetherness and total immersion – both on the inside and outside. The transformations of the intervals textualize the activated spaces, becoming a sensorial commentary of the intersections in the formation of subjectivities, the personal and universal, interior exterior. Questioning society and the geopolitical contemporary situations. Lázara Rosell Albear has works that are part of the collection of Argos, Center for Art and Media, the Frans Masereel Centrum and Kanal-Centre Pompidou.
Sofia Kakouri is based in Brussels since 2012. Working as an independent performance artist, choreographer-dancer and sound designer, she has been exploring and elaborating her personal approach to performance art by combining body movement and sound. Over recent years, her keen interest in improvisation, music, “authentic” movement and tribal traditions, rituals, martial arts, action theatre and somatic practices, nourishes her daily practices and research. She has been creating improvisational and experimental performances, dance-choreographies and music in collaboration with multiple artists and collectives, notably Peter Jacquemyn (BE) since 2014, Lazara R. Albear (CU), Davis Freeman (USA), Jin Young Park (KR) or Yolanda Gutierrez (MX). She has performed with Jean Laurent Sasportes, Gunda Gottschalk, Felix Bürkle, Kenji Takagi in ÖRT Wuppertal (Ge). She has also performed at the Art Center TicTac (Bxl), Kaaistudios (BE), FreeFlowFest Irsina (II), Hawila project (DK) and the Nam June Paik Art Center (KR).
