The Kosovar performer technologically “augments” his body to create another one with it, liberated from gender, origin, even its strictly human character. A hypnotic ritual.
Astrit Ismaïli (XK / NL)
Astrit Ismaïli, born in Pristina, Kosovo in 1991, evokes in his work themes such as family, gender, and transformation, through intimate and meta-theatrical performances. A graduate of DasArts in Amsterdam in 2016, Ismaïli has received several awards, including the prize for the young artist/artist of the future (2011); best director at the Skena Up Festival; and best video performance at Video Fest (2014). Recent performances include Unikat (with Suwane Jo) at the Neunow Festival in Amsterdam, and Nemesis at the Amsterdam Art Weekend, Galerie Juliette Jongma, Amsterdam. The New Body was presented in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Riga.
