« Moelle » is a performance that stems from a search for body behaviours, dealing with the relationship to the back, to pain first and foremost, but also to the absurdity of the movements it makes the artist make.
Marion Dégardin (BE)
It’s a body presented in all its fragility, effort and stubbornness, a performance that raises the question of the body as a place of negotiation, exhaustion and strangeness.
The back is introduced as the driving force behind gestures and intentions, but also as a producer of readings. A reading of space through the face of the back. Pain motivates movement here: it’s because the back is in pain that it moves, that it stretches. As it stretches, it generates noise, sound, the sound a back would make. What sound does it make when it’s crushed, when it turns, when it’s marrowy?
Moelle is a wandering performance that disturbs ears and poeticizes gesticulations.
Sound mocks image.
It’s the vertebral column taking the back for a fool. It’s a stratagem.
