Experience a live-stream artistic odyssey and performance following Phoebe Tohl and her parents on their journey from the remote landscape of the Burren to the bustling city of Brussels.
Phoebe Tohl (IE)
This piece is inspired by the institutional and professional demands Tohl is expected to abide by as an exiting student and emerging artist – specifically, to attend her graduation in Burren and showcase her work in Brussels at exactly the same time. In this piece, Tohl finds a way to be present for both milestones. This performance unfolds immediately after Tohl’s graduation, inviting viewers to witness her distinct ability to adapt to unique challenges along with an intimate portrayal of her family dynamics.
The projected live-stream documentation offers a playful and endearing glimpse into the Tohl family’s shared moments and breaks down conventional barriers between the performers and audience, resulting in an immersive experience that blurs the lines between art and reality where viewers participate as virtual companions.
Through a lens of spontaneity (and a go-pro), the journey will unfold following Tohl and her family as they make their way through busses, trains and planes until they arrive at the festival.
Born in LA in 1995, Phoebe Tohl (she, her) is an artist and curator based in western Ireland. Her practice centers on eco-materiality and intertwines with craft. Tohl works to foster a sense of community through gatherings and personal exchanges and is often influenced by the local landscape. Through acts of care, Tohl’s work responds to circumstance while exploring the notion of a woven structure, both literal and metaphorical, to understand the interconnected relations that exist within a place and environment.
