PÆNSER was born of the desire to reflect on ways of caring for places dedicated to art, by bringing together two approaches to care.
Stevie Ango & Océane Eliard (BE)
Stevie Ango, through his maintenance work, carries out micro-interventions in the material space that shelters us. Océane Eliard, through her embodiment work, takes care of this shared reflection on place: our milieu.
By “milieu”, the artists mean both the spaces in which we interact and those that live inside us: complex sets of spoken and unspoken relationships. Through performance, they imagine acts of reciprocity, making it possible to be impacted by the milieu while at the same time influencing it. It’s a question of working with it, with the wounds that have made it, just as those that have made us, and in our case, made us “activists”.
This proposal is a way of making us see and feel what can emerge from the dialogue between different systems of knowledge. It’s a way of taking special care of knowledge through gestures, by remembering it, disguising it and speculating with it.
Through PÆNSER, the artists seek to create a discreet work that can draw refuges and openings out of our environments. To decentralize, even refocus our gaze. To learn how to build a place together from our capacity to care.
Having just completed a Master’s degree in Installation-Performance at erg (Brussels), the Océane Eliard‘s project Des normes aux mornes: marronner en soi (From norms to mornes: chestnutting in oneself) is a re-actualization of “marronnage”, a practice of resistance during the colonial period. Through performance, she explores the slippages between the words “habiter” and “abriter”, which allow her to observe our relationships to places, to everything that makes a place for her: histories, memories, common and collective spaces. She works with words and gestures to embody her theoretical research.
Stevie Ango (he, him) is in his second year of a master’s program at l’erg in Installation-Performance. Producer, composer and radio host, it was while immersed in the world of stage management and technicians that he felt the need to question cultural spaces. He tries to hack them through a succession of infra-thin interventions.
