Spectrographies, contes de l’île étoilée or tales from a starlit island is a journey that has brought together three creative projects at the Sculpture Museum at the Centre international d’art et du paysage de Vassivière.
Conceived by Dénètem Touam Bona as a way of commemorating the struggles endured by the colonised, this triptych invites us to plunge into dream time, to encounter spirits from the Caribbean, equatorial Africa and the Indian Ocean who have come to re-enchant the island on Lake Vassivière alongside Limousin’s pagan and indocilic spirits.
Dénètem Touam Bona (FR)
Two films from the Spectrographies cycle, Ganzi and Ladjablès, will be presented in virtual reality by Dénètem Touam Bona.
Ganzi, Myriam Mihindou and Annie-Flore Batchiellilys, 2022 (6’30)
Covered with dead branches, Lake Vassivière’s sandy banks assume the appearance of a mangrove. Bathed by the lake’s magnetic flow, an ageless being lets itself be penetrated and purified by the vibrations of a lament sung by a water genie.
Ladjablès, Daniely Francisque, 2022 (6’30)
In a shady grove on the island, the performance Ladjablès tells the story of the emergence of a creature that is as much a Neg Gwo Siwo, a controversial character lifted from the Caribbean carnival, as a she-devil, a rebellious woman who casts off the men she seduces in the maze of madness and death.
