At an improved yoga session, a presentation of the most up-to-date techniques to combat time.
Carole Louis (BE)
This performance is inspired by the prevailing discourse on thousands of coaching videos found actross the internet, whether about face or body yoga, diet, fasting, or make-up encouraging us to strive for ever greater performance levels – and permanent guilt lest we fail. This caustic parody probes this almost subconscious obsession with keeping our bodies eternally young.
Imbued with a bittersweet cruelty, Carole Louis’ tales expose how human beings struggle with their aspirations for happiness. At first sight naïve, her tragicomic universe examines preconceptions and categories. With an ingenuous gaze, she places herself at the point where misunderstandings arise in an attempt to reveal what turns absurd. Fusing different media, she generates a global context that she activates through performance (costumes, props, objects, sculptures, sound and video). Her performance characters’ gestures and words are governed by arbitrary laws they strive to obey. Caged in by the need to adapt to norms and to fit in at all costs, they cultivate clichés that often verge on the grotesque.
