Looking into each other’s eyes, sharing silences, listening to each other, letting ourselves be spirited away in a meditative state by the sheer simplicity of a folded sheet of paper taking shape. Perhaps, it’s time for us to row in another direction as a paper boat follows the flow …
Nicola Bertazzoni (IT)
In a bid to create a receptacle that can absorb the essence of reflections, dreams, inspirations; to inhabit a place of sharing, seeking to jointly imagine new paradigms in relation to what we label “masculinity.” Given that he doesn’t know, Nicola Bertazzoni longs to understand. So, he sets out in quest, he asks for help. The audience will walk through the space, free to observe, free to participate and leave traces of their presence.
A performance extended in time enables performer and audience alike to exist with greater transparency, without imposing their presence, but rather by creating the occasion for potential encounters. To make origami, and if we wish, to convey them a message. What form could this imaginary male assume?
Born in northern Italy, Nicola discovered contemporary circus while studying artistic disciplines at the University of Bologna. He then launched on a course of study that led him to Cirko Vertigo in Turin, then to Brussels to obtain his diploma in 2022 at ESAC. While primarily training as a tightrope walker using his hands, he has not overlooked experimenting with voice, dance and has embraced the rapport with the audience as one of the fundamental aspects of his work. Currently, he works mainly for Circo Madera in Italy, but continues to devote time to his own projects.
